Muscat, February 8th 2015

Under the patronage of His Excellency Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil & Gas, Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) in partnership with Occidental Oman (Oxy Oman) has launched the Traffic Education City in Muscat's Qurum Natural Park. The event was attended by officials from the government and private sectors, ORSA members and volunteers, school students and their parents.

Amor Nasser Al Matani, ORSA's Chairman said: 'We at ORSA have developed an arsenal of awareness programmes and tools designed to engage different target groups of the society. We have videos, road safety manuals and booklets, and now this impressive Traffic Education City," He added, "This event comes as part of Oman Road Safety Association's 'Safer Kids.. Safer Oman..' campaign with the aim of raising awareness among children and their families when using roads as pedestrians, cyclists, or even as passengers in vehicles. The integrated campaign includes awareness talks about the dangers of speeding and the importance of seat belts and child's restraints as well as the dangers of using mobile phones and the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations. Our target is not only communities in Muscat but also the Dhakliya, Sharqiya and Batinah governorates. I would like to thank Occidental Oman for the continuous support extended to the Oman Road Safety Association."

Commenting on 'Safer Kids.. Safer Oman' campaign, Shaima Murtadha Al Lawati, ORSA's Chief Executive Officer said: "We are actively promoting the campaign through the Traffic Education City where children and their family members get to learn more about road safety practices. The Traffic Education City includes a school module, a bus and road signs that inform visitors about the importance of controlling their vehicle speed on roads close to schools and residential areas. It is a fun and educational experience that can be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages."
