MUSCAT -- Omanisation in Oman Gas Company (OGC) has reached 90 per cent due to the initiatives taken by the company to comply with government directives in this regard. Through Omanisation the government seeks to develop professional skills of Omani youth and ensure their employment and absorption in different work sectors. Nasser al Kindi, Human Resources Manager at OGC, said the company was also running regular training courses from time to time to train degree and diploma-holders to gain adequate practical experience in their respective fields and thus improve their career prospects. Over 55 graduates had been trained over the last two years.

Al Kindi disclosed that Omanisation in the higher management had touched 100 per cent, administration and finance 97 per cent, technical jobs 86 per cent and in higher administrative levels from managers upwards 85 per cent. Giving further details he said, OGC considered it a part of its national and social responsibility to promote Omanisation and thus give qualified and experienced Omani youth the opportunity to work in an important sector like gas. "This sector plays a significant role in the development plans of the country. To strengthen the sector with qualified cadres has dual benefits, for the country as well as for the Omanis who get due credit and recognition for their skill.

The exposure of working in a company in the gas sector is an additional benefit as well as it gives the Omanis more confidence and the chance to enhance their skills," he added. Emphasising that the company lays great stress on Omanisation he added, OGC received considerable support from its Board of Directors and the executive management for its implementation. "This has led to higher rate of Omanisation in our company as compared to other companies operating in the oil and gas sector. He explained that the higher rate of Omanisation had been possible only because of the company's clear objectives, the implementation methods and the action towards appropriate training and career developments mechanism.
