Dubai: The streets are decked up, every other car passing by sports the national colours, and all residents are suitably taken up with the spirit of achievement that the 40th UAE National Day so clearly mirrors.

But will that enthusiasm translate into a multi-million bonanza for the nations retail and services sectors over the weekend?

For their part, they are gearing up for one. The extended weekend provided by Thursday being declared a holiday should work its charm in bringing in more shoppers, armed with their November paycheques, out and early.

A couple of the leading malls are forecasting traffic over the weekend will be up 25 to 30 per cent.
