BAGHDAD - Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has signed a contract with Turkish company INKA Fixing Systems Inc to establish a power plant in Basra at $235 million USD (278 billion IQD).

Kareem Aftan, the minister, said the plant will add 500 megawatts to Basra supply through four gas turbines, each generating 125 MW, in Najiba neighborhood of Basra.

The Basra administration will fund the project.

The turbines from General Electric will be installed within 16 months, it is hoped.
