Riyadh -- The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCI) has inked a Dark-Fiber leasing agreement with STC-Bahrain that won recently the third mobile License in Bahrain.
The agreement signed by GCCI's CEO Eng. Adnan Ibrahim Al Moheisen and Chairman of STC-Bahrain Ibrahim Abdurrahman Al Omar, stipulates leasing a pair of fiber-optics from Ghunan station, Saudi Arabia to Jesra station, Bahrain, for a period of 15 years, for usage in the fields of communications.
The existing fiber-optic cable extends up to 800 KMs through the over-head transmission network from Al Zour station in Kuwait to the Southern Doha station in Qatar, in addition to the cable under the Gulf waters along the 41 KMs from the transfer station in Ghunan, Saudi Arabia to the conversion station in Al Jesra, Bahrain, said Al Moheisen.
The GCCIA Cable will be extended to reach the United Arab Emirates from Salwa Station to Al Sal' Station in the UAE and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011, he added.
