· Awards aim to encourage best practices in energy conservation implemented by the Group's business units and employees

· Honours winners of Annual Energy Awards 2016

Dubai, UAE - Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) has successfully doubled its cost savings by implementing organisation-wide energy efficiency measures. In 2015, the company secured savings of US$4.6 million compared to a targeted saving of US$2.1 million.

A 155% increase on the savings of US$1.8 million achieved in 2014, this achievement highlights the significant progress made by ENOC in applying energy and resource management (ERM) strategies to its operations.

In 2008, ENOC launched a full-fledged internal Energy & Resource Management (E&RM) programme aimed at enhancing the Group's performance in terms of energy and resource consumption.

The programme is supplemented with a detailed policy, framework and manual. Moreover, the businesses undergo regular audits to evaluate performance, gaps and areas of improvement. In an effort to align with the goals of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy (DIES) 2030, ENOC is investing US$15 million in energy efficient infrastructure by the end of 2018.

To recognise the employees for their commitment to energy efficiency, ENOC honoured the winners of its Annual Energy Awards at a gala ceremony held at InterContinental Hotel - Dubai Festival City. Organised and hosted by ENOC every year, the initiative aims to encourage best practices in energy conservation implemented by the Group's business units and employees, and recognises the highest savings in energy use achieved through the course of the year.

The award ceremony was attended by H.E. Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC and Chairman of the E&RM Steering Committee; Taher Diab - Senior Director-Strategy & Planning/Secretary General-EEA, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy; Dr. Eng. Waddah Ghanem Al Hashemi- Executive Director EHSSQ & Corporate Affairs, and Chairman of ENOC E&RM Technical Committee; and ENOC's Executive Committee members, ENOC's E&RM Steering and Technical Committee member, Heads of Departments and employees.

H.E. Al Falasi, said: "Global population growth and infrastructure development have a significant impact on energy demand and consequently the environment. It is essential that industry leaders strive to reduce this impact. The Annual ENOC Energy Awards programme underlines the importance of our energy and resource management policy and framework, which has helped us achieve valuable savings in energy and financial resources. The periodical E&RM system audits and corrective actions we undertake allow us to ascertain the degree of compliance of all business segments to ensure energy efficiency across the board.

"The E&RM policy has significantly improved our contribution to environmental sustainability and encouraged our businesses to adopt best practices in conserving energy resources by demonstrating the financial returns of rationalizing consumption. Since its inception, the Awards have helped further integrate a culture of energy use efficiency and rationalisation within our organisation," he added.

The Annual Energy Awards is part of ENOC's E&RM strategy and complements the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy's vision to secure a sustainable future for the UAE, while preserving the environment and reducing carbon footprint.

Dr. Eng. Waddah Ghanem Al Hashemi, Executive Director, EHSSQ & Corporate Affairs at ENOC said: "ENOC has a clear E&RM strategy and is proud to have achieved the industry's benchmark in Energy Management by receiving the ISO 50001 certificate. In addition to the Annual Awards initiative, each business unit at ENOC has drafted a supplementary plan that will result in additional savings of around US$3.7 million by 2019. As accountability is critical for organisations, our E&RM targets are integrated in each company's business plan. This was essential to the success we are celebrating today."
