Dubai, UAE, 14 April 2015

HE Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, revealed that the Municipality has allocated a budget of AED 3 billion to implement a series of projects across the Emirate of Dubai during 2015. He said these projects are in line with Dubai's relentless drive towards smart city and sustainability and some of them are focused on heritage and tourism areas,  including Al Shandagha area and Al Fahidi Historical District, one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai.

HE Lootah was speaking at the inauguration of the 10th edition of Dubai WoodShow 2015 today (Tuesday, 14 April 2015).

HE Lootah said: "The international and local exhibitors at the show interactvery effectively. The show is displaying a wide range of wood products as well as machineries that we think adds value to the regional wood industry which iswitnessing huge advancements worldwide in terms of technologies and solutions. This event helps players in the region see these developments at first hand."

The exhibition has attracted over 230 exhibitors representing suppliers, manufacturers and other players from related industries.

During his tour of the Dubai WoodShow 2015, HELootah was briefed on latest developments on the timber production industry. He added that the construction sector is a key driver of wood business in Dubai as wood is a key ingredient for many houseware products used in residential projects.

According to Future Outlook of the Wood Industry in the GCC, the UAE has the second largest construction sector economy in the GCC region with total construction projects worth of USD 21,088 million carried out in 2013 against the backdrop of UAE winning Expo 2020.

According to Josine Heijmans, Exhibition Director at Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, organisers of the Dubai WoodShow 2015, Hardwood product imports have been increasing recently which proves the relevance of this industry to the construction sector in the region.

"At the Dubai WoodShow 2015, we display technologies used during different stages of wood productionbefore they are exported to the other countries. There are major global manufacturersonsite showcasing real production process using giant machines. This exhibition is geared towards meeting all requirements of timber products."

"Visitors to the Dubai WoodShow will be briefed on wood manufacturing processes such as felling, measuring wood, sawing wood, drying wood, and milling. This is because the process is a factor for determination on the wood product quality," added Heijmans

The show is supported by leading global organizations from Italy, Spain, USA, Europe, France, Sweden, Malaysia, Taiwan, and others. It is running from 14 to 16 April 2015 in Dubai World Trade Centre.

Like hard wood demand, the construction sector consumes the largest quantities of softwood products for applications such as concrete forming and scaffolding while demand for pallets, crates and boxes is largely stemming from the oil &gas as well as the logistics and transportation industries.

The demand from various sectors has encouraged us to expand the Dubai WoodShow display space, to reach 13,500 square meters this year," concluded Heijmans.
