DUBAI, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Dubai International Airport saw a 29.6 percent jump in passenger numbers in July, reflecting runway maintenance the previous summer, the operator of the world's busiest airport by international traffic said on Wednesday.
Traffic rose to 6.68 million passengers in July from 5.12 million a year earlier, Dubai Airports said.
Passengers year to date came to 45.0 million, up 12.9 percent.
The growth in traffic was propelled by new services to eastern European destinations by carriers flydubai and Emirates.
The heaviest traffic was on routes serving Gulf countries followed by the Indian subcontinent and Western Europe.
Cargo volumes rose 8 percent in July to 205,526 tonnes.
Some cargo operations have moved to Al Maktoum International - Dubai World Central (DWC).
Cargo volumes there in the first six months of the year rose 42 percent to 443,012 tonnes, its operator said.
Dubai International Airport was reduced to one runway from May to July 2014 for maintenance which lasted 80 days.
