Dubai, UAE, 24 March 2015: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won the Best Smart Application Award in the Official and Government Entities category at the UAE level at the 6th Smart Government Best Practices conference and exhibition. The event was organised by the Pan Arab Excellence Awards Academy from 16-18 March 2015 in Kuwait. There was wide participation from different sectors from the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, and Egypt.

"At DEWA, we are guided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We are enlightened by his vision in developing our strategies and plans to achieve excellence and creativity in all our services according to the highest levels of availability, efficiency and reliability. This makes our customers happier, more comfortable, and enables them to complete their transactions in a smart and easy way anytime, anywhere. We managed to transform all our services to smart services, less than a year after the announcement of the smart transformation strategy," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"We are honoured to receive this award, which adds to the list of prestigious awards and honours DEWA has achieved during the course of its successful journey for over five decades. To achieve our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, we will continue our efforts to enhance DEWA's competitiveness at the national, regional, and global levels. We will also support the sustainable development of Dubai to establish the Emirate as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism, green economy, and sustainability," added Al Tayer.

"Smart transformation of government services is very important. It has significant results in the wellbeing of society as it contributes to saving natural resources, limiting carbon dioxide emissions, and providing a healthy environment. Using DEWA's electronic and smart services helped eliminate 12,886 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in 2014. This equates to planting 64,431 trees in an area equivalent to 121.5 football fields. The amount was calculated based on the emissions that could have resulted from customers travelling to and from DEWA offices," said Moza Al Akraf, Acting CIO at DEWA.

DEWA provides all its services through its smart app, which is compatible with most platforms including Android, iOS, and Blackberry. It is also accessible on various operating systems including Windows, Windows Phones, Samsung home entertainment systems, and Etisalat's eLife
