Dubai - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in the Dubai Government Achievements Exhibition 2015, held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The exhibition, which is organised by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, is held from 30 March to 1 April 2015. Its theme is Local Government and Global Achievements.

"DEWA is taking part in the third Dubai Government Achievements Exhibition 2015 to support the fourth generation of the government excellence system, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote a culture of excellence in the government sector, and its strategy to enhance joint work with all government departments,. This year's exhibition has a new dimension with its focus on innovation and excellence in government work. It supports our efforts towards innovation, after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced 2015 as the year of innovation in the UAE," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"At DEWA, we support the excellence and competitiveness of the UAE and Dubai by providing excellent government services and adopting the best international practices to achieve the highest levels of society's satisfaction and happiness. We harness creativity and excellence in our daily work to improve performance, efficiency, and services to the highest level. DEWA is demonstrating a number of its leading achievements including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will produce 3,000MW by 2030, as well as our three smart initiatives. These are connecting solar energy to buildings, smart applications through smart meters and grids, and electric-vehicle charging stations. These will effectively contribute to creating a smarter and better future for all Dubai's residents, and supporting our efforts to achieve the sustainable development of the Emirate," he added.

"In terms of benchmarking, we have achieved very competitive results that outperformed even the private sector. DEWA increased the efficiency of its energy generation by 22% between 2006 and 2014, using the latest technologies and adopting technological innovations. It also surpassed leading European and American companies by reducing losses in power transmission and distribution networks to 3.26%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the USA. Water network losses decreased to 9%, compared to 15% in North America, achieving leading global results in reducing water losses. DEWA's results are among the best internationally for customer minutes lost per year, at 4.9 minutes in 2014, compared to 15 minutes recorded by leading utilities in the European Union," added Al Tayer.

"DEWA launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to support the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support the sustainable development of Dubai. It implements the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to diversify Dubai's energy mix and increase the percentage of renewable energy. DEWA is implementing what is one of the largest-renewable energy projects in the region. The 13MW first phase was launched on 22 October 2013. The 200MW second phase will be operational in 2017. It is one of the largest IPP strategic projects in the renewable energy market worldwide. The Solar Park features a Research and Development Centre, a solar testing facility, an Innovation Centre, a University, and a Training Centre," concluded Al Tayer.
