Dubai, UAE, 4 September 2015

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) is organising an open employment day for UAE National technicians at the Dubai Police Officers Club on Saturday, 5 September 2015. DEWA will receive employment applications for technical specialities. This is part of DEWA's efforts to achieve strategic Emiratisation objectives and attract distinguished Emiratis to join. DEWA has allocated 300 jobs for UAE Nationals in 2015.

DEWA's technical committees will interview applicants at the event. These include production, power transmission, power distribution, civil and water, power and water planning, and IT. DEWA's officials will include Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Maryam Al-Mutaiwei, Vice President of Human Resources.

"DEWA's strategy is to enhance and promote Emiratisation in specialised and quality jobs. This supports the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It also supports the goals and objectives of the UAE National Agenda to develop the skills of UAE Nationals, and contributes to achieving the UAE Vision 2021 to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world by 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021 for Dubai to be a city of happy, creative and empowered people," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"DEWA implements the best international practices and is committed to the highest quality and excellence standards to improve the quality of its services for all its customers. We work to increase Emiratisation rates in different positions as per our strategy in this area. DEWA participates in annual career fairs and recruitment events. It also organises its own events like this open day to attract competent UAE Nationals who look for careers in the technical fields," added Al Tayer.

"DEWA has achieved excellent results in Emiratisation, with UAE Nationals comprising 83.53% of senior management, 44.39% middle management, in Q2 of 2015. In 2014, DEWA launched a scholarship programme for UAE Nationals to get bachelor's degrees in renewable energy abroad. DEWA's Academy received students starting from the school year 2013-14 to prepare Emiratis in vocational specialisations. Earlier, DEWA signed agreements with many international organisations and universities to train its staff in Europe and the United States and exchange the experiences and best practices to support DEWA's organisational excellence," he added.

"DEWA is committed to the Emiratisation of engineering, technical, and vocational jobs, especially after its success in the Emiratisation of many administrative and financial jobs. To achieve this, we prepare young Emiratis academically and practically to play positive roles in their careers and enhance their competitiveness in the job market. DEWA's training programmes qualify the largest number of Emirati youth to meet the requirements of DEWA's technical departments and to support the Emiratisation policy developed by our wise leadership," said Dr. Al Akraf.

DEWA has developed an Emiratisation plan to attract UAE Nationals. It includes an Open Day for Emirati technicians and participation in career fairs at universities and colleges. DEWA trains and qualifies Emiratis and gives them the chance to continue their graduate studies and encourages them to enter the technical fields by providing specialised trainings. It provides concentrated training for Emiratis in all specialities. DEWA started its scholarship programmes for high school graduates in technical fields in 1998. Each year, it provides scholarships for 110 students in the technical fields.

DEWA partnered with the Business and Technology Education Council to launch the DEWA Academy to train young Emiratis in various technical and professional fields, as part of its strategy to enhance and develop its technical staff and support its Emiratisation strategy. The training programmes cover different areas of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution as well as water desalination. Upon completion, students receive a certificate from Business and Technology Education Council. The certificate qualifies graduates to work in various technical fields in DEWA.

The DEWA Academy qualifies Emirati youth academically in technical, engineering, and vocational fields in various technical specialisations required by DEWA for the Emiratisation of these specialties. This also helps DEWA to carry out its ambitious expansion plans, and continue its pioneering role in meeting Dubai's energy and water demands. Currently, there are 60 students enrolled in the Academy.
