TUNIS - The committee of compromise on the draft constitution ended work, late Friday night, said General Rapporteur of the Constitution Habib Khedher. "Compromises were reached between the different parliamentary groups on the main contentious points including control of constitutionality of bills and continuation of activity of the National Assembly," he added in a statement to TAP.
Khedher said these compromises involved all issues listed by the committee at its meeting of last July 18 and the committee had appealed to constitutional experts and linguists.
The committee's report will be distributed to deputies and posted on the website of the NCA, he indicated.
Pending the establishment of a constitutional court, a provisional body to control bills will be created to check the constitutionality of draft laws, said Khedher. "A law on the organisation of this body will be developed within three months," he noted.
The provisional authority will be composed of first presidents of the court of appeal, administrative court, audit court and three legal experts. The latter will be designated by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the President of the NCA, respectively.
The other compromises reached by the committee relate to rights, freedoms, identity, judicial power, the relationship between the legislative and executive powers and power sharing between the president of the republic and the prime minister.
