Collaboration will improve transport and care for critically ill Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi patients across the UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE, July 28, 2015: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala's network of world-class healthcare facilities, has formed a new strategic partnership with National Ambulance, the UAE's primary pre-hospital emergency care provider serving government and private clients.

Under the agreement which was recently signed, National Ambulance will provide two state-of-the-art ambulances dedicated exclusively to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for facility-to-facility transport and international patient airport transfers. The vehicles will be staffed by National Ambulance paramedics and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi critical care nurses.

"This partnership represents an important first step in establishing our Critical Care Transport program, as we work together with our local partners to meet the most pressing healthcare needs of Abu Dhabi patients," said Marc Harrison, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. "The capabilities of National Ambulance paramedics and vehicles, paired with the expertise and experience of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's critical care team, will enable us to provide safe and seamless transfers for critically-ill and injured patients."

Critical Care Transport is a part of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Emergency Medicine Institute, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with senior physicians available around the clock. The Emergency Medicine Institute treats patients with serious illness or injuries requiring immediate attention; however, it does not function as a trauma center.

National Ambulance was established in 2010 and has achieved Joint Commission International Accreditation for its high-quality Emergency Patient Transport service in the northern Emirates.

"We are privileged to be teaming up with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to offer safe and efficient facility-to-facility transfer of critically-ill patients. Cleveland Clinic is a recognized global leader in healthcare and, through their partnership with Mubadala, is helping to complement the Abu Dhabi healthcare landscape with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's world-class facilities," said Robert Ball, Chief Executive Officer, National Ambulance. "This collaboration is the result of a shared ambition to enhance the way we deliver care to patients in Abu Dhabi, as well as improving the quality of life for the people we serve."

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi offers complex care in more than 30 specializations across 12 Institutes, including Heart & Vascular, Neurological, Eye, Digestive Disease, and Respiratory & Critical Care. At this time, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi accepts select Daman enhanced and Thiqa insurance plans, and also welcomes patients who wish to self-pay.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi does not offer orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and will not be a trauma center. The hospital is unable to accept patients under the age of 14, with the exception of the Eye Institute.
