DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--Bahrain's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, or TRA, said Monday that mobile number portability will be available from July 17 followed by fixed-line number portability two months later.
"This is a major milestone for the Kingdom of Bahrain and is expected to greatly stimulate competition in the market," said Ahmed Aldoseri, TRA's ICT director in an emailed statement.
Mobile phone and fixed-line number portability will allow customers to migrate from one operator to another without changing their existing numbers.
Bahraini mobile and fixed-line operators include: Bahrain Telecommunication Co., or Batelco, MTC Vodafone Bahrain, Kalaam Telecom, STC Bahrain, and Lightspeed Communications.
