Outlets that violate the rule may face a fine of up to Dh100,000; An Arabic-speaking staff also to be mandatory
Retail outlets in the UAE would be soon required to issue invoices in both Arabic and English.
Dr Hashem Al Nuaimi, Director, Consumer Protection Department, Ministry of Economy, said the new regulations are being discussed and is awaiting approval by the higher committee. It is likely to be implemented on March 14, he added.
Meanwhile, all retail stores would also be required to have an Arabic-speaking employee.
The director also said that retail stores that fail to abide by the new rules would face a fine of up to Dh100,000.
The move comes after the committee received several complaints from customers about not being able to understand invoices issued in English and because of an absence of salesmen who know Arabic.
Dr Al Nuaimi said the rule would require new machines at retail stores or revising the already existing ones.© Emirates 24|7 2013
