256,097 tourists poured into the emirate for therapeutic treatment, the majority of who were from Asian, European, and GCC countries

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Al Qatami said at the launch of the International Medical travel Conference and Exhibition (IMTEC) "The prestigious status that Dubai enjoys internationally has paved the way for a better health future."

The International Medical travel Conference and Exhibition (IMTEC) commenced this morning at the Dubai World Trade Center. The event was attended by a large number of officials, experts and specialists from the United Arab Emirates as well as participation from 84 countries and 74 local and foreign companies.

In his opening speech, His Excellency, Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority said, "the prestigious status that Dubai enjoys internationally has paved the way for a better future for health. It has made the emirate of Dubai eligible for being the primary destination as well as a favorite for therapeutic tourism, drawing attention to the status Dubai enjoys amongst other centers worldwide of which the Authority is well aware and is keen to achieve within its terms of reference and its responsibilities and objectives in promoting the health sector."

Dr. Layla Al Marzouqi, Director of Health Regulation at the Dubai Health Authority said, "the conference aims to discuss and evaluate the latest developments in the field of medical tourism and apply highest standards and quality to improve patient conditions. She emphasized that the Dubai Health Authority is always keen on offering the best health services through its top-notch health facilities and professional cadres of health and administration personnel that are in charge of hospitals, clinics and other health centers. Over 32,697 professionals are involved in the running of these establishments and more than 2,985 health organizations are involved, 80% of which are accredited internationally, in addition to a number of specialized and recognized orthopedic surgical and beauty centers."

Dr. Al Marzouqi highlighted that the health system in the Emirate of Dubai is flexible, efficient, and capable of adapting to emerging circumstances, changes and requirements as well as take into consideration all new developments and regulations in line with new world medical developments.

She also mentioned that what Dubai offers in the field of services and tourism facilities has made it attractive to medical tourism as more than 256,097 people have made the emirate their destination of choice for this purpose - both from inside and outside the country (33% of whom were Asian, 27% European, and 23% from neighboring Arab countries and the GCC.

In this context, it is to be noted that the conference is an ideal platform for medical tourism specialists to meet and discuss the trends and functions of such aspect as it combines both therapeutic tourism as well as healthcare. It is a platform for healthcare specialists, tourism promoters, and medical and tourism organizers to interact. Over 35 speakers will be featured in the conference.

The conference and exhibition are organized by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions, and hosted some of the most distinguished regional, local and international medical tourism institutions. It will tomorrow (Thursday) and include a number of health and therapeutic tourism providers under all one roof such as Turkey, which happens to be very well represented by its Healthcare Tourism Development Council.

On this matter, Emin Cakmak, President and Founder of the Healthcare Tourism Development Council, said: "We look forward to receiving an increased number of therapeutic tourists from the GCC region and to consolidating relations between Turkey and the GCC. He added "we offer a number of high-quality and high-standard health services, and our objective is to meet the needs for health services that are required by the many tourists from the GCC, Asia and Africa."
