A research paper is submitted on sustainable design of asphalt pavements using plastic network

Abu Dhabi City Municipality - 25 May 2015: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has recently taken part in the 3rd Middle East Conference on Asphalt Pavements Specialists Community. The conference was well attended by professors, experts, specialists, consultants and university students of relevance to as asphalt pavements in the Middle East and the world.

The Municipality's participation in the conference was highlighted by a research about the sustainable design of asphalt pavements using plastic networks covering studies conducted over the past four years in this field. It also covered applications of various projects in Abu Dhabi city along with the resulting technical benefits such as improving the performance of asphalt pavement, increasing the design lifespan of asphalt roads, economic benefits reducing the cost of constructing asphalt pavements by 10% to 20% equivalent to 120 million dirham, and environmental benefits in terms of reducing power consumption, raw materials, and carbon emissions during the phases of constructing roads in Abu Dhabi city.

The Municipality also reviewed the principles and requirements of approval on the basis of which a review is carried out, and a no objection certificate is issued in respect of designs within Abu Dhabi City Municipality.

The 3rd Middle East Conference on Asphalt Pavements Specialists Community aimed at publishing the latest studies and research papers in the field of asphalt pavement in the Middle East and across the world. It also sought to share expertise and knowledge between asphalt pavement specialists in the Middle East and the world, discuss key topics & issues of relevance to asphalt pavement in the Middle East, and show attention to researches and applied studies about the standards of sustainability in the field of asphalt pavement in the Middle East and the world.

It is noteworthy that the Conference, which was held in the American University of Dubai is the third Middle East Conference on Asphalt Pavements Specialists Community. The first edition was held in the American University of Beirut, and the second was held in the American University of Sharjah in 2013.

The Municipality attaches paramount attention to this conference due to its research and scientific significance as it offers a platform for showcasing successful practices in this field. The Municipality had delivered a research in the second Conference in Sharjah in 2013 about the recycling of asphalt pavements to rehabilitate old asphalt roads in a sustainable manner.
