Dubai: The Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) has absolved 555 security cheque cases against Emiratis since the Presidential Order issued in October to help defaulters on debts, according to Dubai’s Attorney-General.
“The DPP has dismissed and/or dropped all cases of bounced security cheques issued by Emiratis between the date when President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered to halt any form of criminal action against them and 31st of December 2012. DPP dropped all previous/current cases that were counted in the aforementioned presidential order,” Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai’s Attorney-General, said.
Al Humaidan clarified on Monday that DPP’s legal action included dismissing bounced security cheque cases against Emiratis and even those in which court judgments (irrevocable or in absentia) were handed out.
He said the legal consequences of the cases’ dismissals is to waive all criminal issues related to those cases and have all Emirati detainees and/or convicts immediately released.
“The step also requires that all currently similar cases that are being heard by courts to be suspended and any punishments be annulled. That is why I call on all Emiratis, who issued security cheques to banks or financing companies and the presidential order applies to their condition, to step forward to the DPP and take the necessary measures to have their cases dropped,” said Al Humaidan.
