Partnership will allow local SMEs to display products at Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets

Dubai - Dubai SME, the agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai mandated to develop the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Majid Al Futtaim Retail to support members of Dubai SME through the display of their products at Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets.

Carrefour is a subsidiary of Majid Al Futtaim Retail with operations across the UAE. The aim of the agreement is to enhance competitiveness amongst members of Dubai SME, support the development of small and medium enterprises in the retail business and contribute to the GDP of Dubai and the UAE.

The MoU was signed at the Dubai SME headquarters in the Business Village by His Excellency Abdul Baset Al Janahi, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai SME, and Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director, Carrefour UAE, in the presence of a number of executives and officials from both sides.

Al Janahi said: “Dubai SME is seeking to help develop small and medium enterprises by partnering with the private sector, thereby increasing their operational productivity and customer reach. This agreement offers rewarding opportunities for members and provides a strong platform to display and promote their products.  With its many convenient locations in the UAE, Carrefour enjoys high popularity and footfall cutting across segments of the UAE community.”

Al Janahi added: “We constantly explore opportunities and benefits for our members to get the best results for their businesses. This agreement will enable our members to promote their products, in particular, fresh food, groceries, household and electrical appliances and textiles.”

Al Janahi also highlighted Dubai SME’s continued efforts in seeking out avenues compatible to the nature of its members’ projects as well as the national development policy. He said Dubai SME entering into partnerships allowed entrepreneurs to become part of the global trade ecosystem and created a platform for the members to compete with big local companies in the market.

Commenting on the MoU, Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “We are proud of this partnership with Dubai SME, which allows us to become a platform for local companies seeking to achieve growth and development. It also supports our role in contributing to the UAE economy and help achieve economic diversity. We at Carrefour strive to provide quality products at competitive prices, and this partnership will support our efforts to diversify our suppliers and enhance our product offering to customers, creating great moments for everyone, everyday.”
