US-based Darigold, a marketing and processing subsidiary of Northwest Dairy Association (NDA), has announced the opening of its sales office in Dubai, UAE, to strengthen customer service, relationships and provide high-quality dairy products across Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.

It will carry out business in the region as Darigold FZE from its office located at Dubai World Trade Center Complex, Sheikh Zayed Road, said a statement from the company.

The US group has already appointed an in-country sales expert, Benoy Kondoor as its sales director for MEA region.

Kondoor had earlier been managing dairy sales for Louis Dreyfus Company in the Middle East and Pakistan. Prior to that, he managed dairy sales for Olam, it said.

He will report to Ashwini Law, the VP of international business, based in Singapore, who joined Darigold last year.

Law leads the business across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, and brings 20-plus years of experience in agricultural commodity food and beverage businesses.

Jonathan Spurway, leader of Darigold’s ingredients business, said: “We’re excited to open our office in Dubai as we recognise the MEA as an opportunity to expand our capabilities.”

“Direct relationships are critical to serving customers. Through true insights and a deep understanding of their business, we can better deliver excellent service and quality, as well as what our customers want and need,” he added.

Like its recent expansion in Mexico, Darigold’s presence in Dubai furthers its commitment to customer excellence and helps address the increasing worldwide demand for healthy sources of protein for infants, adults and aging populations, said the statement from the company.

In 2018, the Middle East region had imported $4.8 billion worth of dairy products. Of this, the US dairy industry’s market share was about 3 per cent.

In addition, nearby North Africa is a major market for skimmed milk powder, butter and cheese, with Algeria and Morocco having imported $1.5 billion in dairy products in 2018, said the company in its statement.

This provides an opportunity to serve customers of NDA member farms in the Middle East and Africa, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
