Abu Dhabi: Nine VPS Healthcare hospitals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain regions have become COVID-19 free with all positive patients being discharged upon recovery. The hospitals have now resumed full outpatient and inpatient services for the community with all the safety mechanisms in place ensuring patient safety.

The healthcare group has been on the forefront in supporting the UAE government in tackling the deadly pandemic and had been treating COVID-19 patients in all its facilities in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain regions. It even dedicated its newest facility Burjeel Medical City entirely for the cause.

About 400 inpatient rooms were arranged in the yet-to-be opened facility in Abu Dhabi’s Mohammed Bin Zayed City for treating COVID-19 patients. Burjeel Medical City is the flagship project of VPS Healthcare and is envisioned as an Oncology hospital offering ultramodern and advanced cancer treatment.

A full-fledged RT-PCR laboratory was also set up in the quaternary care hospital with an initial capacity of 150 per day to test 5,000 samples daily.

VPS Healthcare had played a pivotal role in supporting the National Screening Programme by setting up a provisional testing facility at Al Massoud site with the capacity to test 3,500 patients daily. About 100,000 people underwent COVID-19 screening at the testing facility.

Burjeel, Medeor and LLH hospitals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain regions have become COVID-19 free. However, the hospital authorities said that they would continue normal functioning without putting down the guard against the deadly pandemic.

Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Managing Director of VPS Healthcare, said it was a privilege to have supported the UAE’s leadership during the pandemic. “The UAE’s leadership has displayed perseverance and determination throughout the battle. The nation has done a commendable job in flattening the curve. The number of cases has come down significantly as part of the health department’s ongoing efforts in conducting massive testing, early detection and treatment mechanisms,” he said.

Dr Nabeel Debouni, Group Medical Director of VPS Healthcare, said all the facilities will continue to follow the safety guidelines strictly in the coming days. “Social distancing and other safety practices will continue in the facilities. We have already made necessary arrangements to ensure these across the facility. Additionally, other procedures such as temperature checks, identifying symptomatic patients at the entrance will continue. Those found to be suspected cases will be soon shifted to government facilities with all precautions”.

“Wearing of mask and gloves would be mandatory and staff would continue wearing personal protective gears to avoid infection from asymptomatic patients. The hospitals would also be following international sterilization protocol within the hospital premises,” he added.

The healthcare group’s Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery in Dubai has also been announced COVID-19 free by Dubai Health Authority.
