Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the 21st edition of the National Career Exhibition will be held from February 6 to 8, 2019.

The Career Fair is organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in cooperation with the Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies [EIBFS] with the support of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  This event is the one-of-its-kind in the Emirate, offering employment opportunities for graduates in the banking and financial sector.

The National Career Exhibition is an integral part of the UAE government’s initiatives to successfully integrate national manpower into the UAE’s workforce, particularly in the banking and finance sector. By bringing together leading public and private establishments in the country on a single platform over the last two decades, the exhibition provides thousands of job and training opportunities for Emirati youth in line with their education, skills and expertise. 

The 21st edition of the Career Fair focuses on three main themes: “Career Development, Training and Future Jobs”. The Fair is expected to attract thousands of visitors from the UAE, both women and men, to scout jobs offered by the participating public and private institutions, as well as to acquire the skills of planning their career options in order to achieve their personal goals and aspirations in the long term. The exhibition also offers opportunities to sign up for specialised training courses to be announced by the EIBFS.

Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of Sharjah Human Resources Department, expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for harnessing all capacities and efforts to support, prepare and train national human resources and enable them to work in different sectors, whether governmental or private. Dr Khadim emphasised that this will ensure the continuity and career growth of the UAE nationals in order to support the process of sustainable development in the country, in line with the best standards as well as local and international best practices.

He stressed that the strategies and plans of Sharjah Human Resources Directorate [SHRD] translate the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi in preparing a qualified generation capable of taking responsibility and managing businesses in various sectors and facing current and future difficulties and challenges. The strategies will also help the aspiring UAE nationals to achieve the vision of His Highness to provide a decent life for Emiratis graduates through employment in the field of their specialisations.

He said that thanks to the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the Emirate of Sharjah has created opportunities to attract national human capital from different cities in the Emirate in support of social and economic development.

He added that the Government of Sharjah has set the roadmap for the future of its national cadres, guided by the guidance and vision of the wise leadership in enhancing the status of human resources as a pillar of the integrated national development.

Bin Khadim added: “We are taking deliberate steps in promoting Emiratisation policy in various economic sectors by increasing the percentage of nationals in these sectors. SHRD is providing training and guidance programs to motivate job seekers to work in private sector institutions."

He also stressed that the SHRD attaches great importance to the qualification of job seekers through education and training tracks that are in line with the needs of the labor market in light of the changes and developments in the country. The qualification and training are the gate for graduates and job seekers to enter the labor market, ensuring continuity and job stability.

He added that SHRD is keen to strengthen partnerships with institutions concerned with the development and employment of national human resources. The presence and participation in the Career Exhibition is proof of building and supporting partnerships among Sharjah government institutions in supporting their young national human resources.

He said "Since the institutions and individuals of this society are partners in working within one system serving the UAE, SHRD has harnessed all its resources and energies to provide the highest quality of its services to job seekers who represent the Department’s primary interest.

SHRD is developing strategic plans and initiatives in a comprehensive framework for employing national human resources, in line with initiatives supporting Emiratisation in the UAE

He explained that the SHRD platform will include departments and entities of the Government of Sharjah and will receive requests of job seekers wishing to work in the various business sectors in the country by providing the immediate registration service in the electronic recruitment service of SHRD, and will answer all their inquiries and guide them to the most appropriate career path that provides a decent life for them.

The Career Exhibition will include educational and awareness workshops for job seekers on topics of interest to them, most notably the ethics and regulations of government work.

The aim of SHRD platform is to contribute time and effort to job seeker in identifying the nature of the work in government departments and institutions, and to create an ideal opportunity for job seekers to meet with human capital departments in the participating entities.

He praised the efforts of Expo Centre Sharjah in organising this annual event which aims at providing job opportunities for national cadres in all sectors. He also praised the cooperation among Sharjah government departments and institutions and their participation under the government platform and their keenness to communicate directly with new graduates.

Jamal Al Jassmi, General Manager of EIBFS, expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi for his generous patronage of the National Career Exhibition.

He pointed out that the exhibition is one of the largest events in support of the efforts of the UAE government to nationalise jobs, highlighting the multiple initiatives and achievements by the government entities responsible for preparing UAE graduates to secure jobs in the private sector.

EIBFS’s initiative to enhance Emirati youth skills 

Jamal Al Jassmi announced that the EIBFS, through its strategic partnership with the National Career Exhibition, will contribute in qualifying the human capital and building competitive competencies, thus effectively helping to build a knowledge-based sustainable economy. During the course of the event, the Institute will launch a free training program for UAE nationals to pass the IELTS, which is one of the most important skills for those interested in working in the banking sector.

He added that the aim of the scholarships is to improve the national human resources' skills in the English language and to enhance their capabilities in order to help them meet the challenges of future work.

Responsibilities of the banking sector 

Al Jassmi stressed that the banking sector has an important role in attracting and employing national human resources and investing in developing these capabilities effectively and continuously to fill positions with higher responsibilities and to focus on specialised positions such as treasury, credit and risk functions.

He said that banks consider Emiratisation a positive initiative in their interest, as well as in the interest of the country, pointing out that most banks are currently pursuing several strategies to increase the number of national staff in line with the government's Emiratisation policy.

Efforts of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Human Resources Development Committee 

Al Jassmi appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Human Resources Development Committee in the banking and financial sector and their effective role in enhancing the participation of UAE nationals in this important sector.

Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah said that the 21st National Career Exhibition is one of the most important platforms in offering and providing training, qualification and employment opportunities for citizens – particularly in the specialised, technical, administrative and other functions.
