Dubai, United Arab Emirates—TIER, Europe's leading shared micro-mobility provider, has partnered with talabat, the region’s leading online food and q-commerce delivery platform, to become the first company to launch e-scooter delivery at Expo 2020. Side by side, the companies will bring an innovative and sustainable way of managing food delivery throughout the mega-event.

In line with Expo 2020’s sustainability and mobility subthemes, the e-scooters are set to introduce a highly efficient, tech-savvy and sustainable mode of delivery from ‘talabat Kitchen’, talabat’s state-of-the-art, sustainable cloud kitchen, to customers throughout the Expo 2020 site. TIER will provide the q-commerce organization with no-emission e-scooters for the dispatch of delivery orders from over 30 represented restaurants at the ‘talabat Kitchen’ to strategically located order pick-up kiosks.

With riders being the backbone of both businesses, TIER and talabat will provide  thorough training for each rider to ensure their safety as well as those around them. TIER’s e-scooters are recognized for their industry-leading safety features, which include a wireless phone charger, a wider foot pad, dual suspension, and double kick-stand and dual drum brakes for a safe yet comfortable experience.

Commenting on the partnership, Amir Melad, General Manager Middle East of TIER, shared, “The partnership with talabat is a significant milestone for TIER as it demonstrates how our technology and fleet of smart and sustainable e-scooters can help businesses make a further impact on reducing their carbon footprint, whilst contributing to cleaner and smarter cities.”

Further commenting on the partnership, Onur Elgun, Vice President of Strategy MENA at talabat said, “We are delighted to be working alongside TIER to launch e-scooter delivery at Expo 2020.  Through this collaboration, we are able to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, innovation and smart mobility while having full visibility of every order’s journey.”

He added, “With over 30 partner restaurants in our two-story cloud kitchen ready to serve millions of expected Expo visitors, we wanted to introduce a carbon neutral delivery solution whilst keeping our riders at heart. Ensuring the e-scooters are equipped with advanced safety measures and that our riders are well-trained and prepared to deliver food orders at Expo was at the core of our collaboration with TIER. We’re glad to share that common goal of always keeping the riders’ safety first. ”

TIER’s e-scooters are entirely designed for first and last mile solutions, making them the most suited partner for this year’s Expo 2020, while allowing talabat to benefit from its exceptional hardware as well as its expertise as a leading operator in the Middle East. The company is the first provider in the Middle East to use swappable battery technology, this positions TIER at the industry forefront in terms of sustainability since the need to transport scooters back and forth to warehouses charging is obsolete, and empty batteries can be swapped on-site by the local team.

Expo 2020 is set to be a food destination in its own right, with hundreds of F&B outlets and global cuisines at every visitor’s fingertips. With TIER and talabat’s partnership for the event, Expo 2020 is sure to be a memorable culinary experience for all visitors.
