Dubai, which is often referred to as a “smart city” and home to a growing start-up community, has been ranked among the world’s best 75 cities for entrepreneurs.

A new study by Oberlo.com shows that the emirate received an overall ranking of 59 out of 200 cities globally in terms of encouraging success in starting and growing a business, but it came top for the level of tax imposed on businesses, and number six for its logistics ecosystem.

Oberlo, an e-commerce tool that helps entrepreneurs set up online businesses, ranked the cities based on factors relating to innovation, economic strength and entrepreneurial spirit.

Dubai was ranked 66 for economic freedom, 28 for the number of days it takes to set up a business, 23 for its tech ecosystem, 69 for its human tech capital and 30 for venture capital.

London landed the top spot for entrepreneurial success overall, followed by New York and San Francisco.

The survey also highlighted that in other destinations, entrepreneurs don’t wait very long to complete an important task. In Auckland, New Zealand, for instance, it takes only half a day to incorporate a business, compared with Warsaw, Poland, where it takes the longest time - 37 days.

The survey also found that Italian cities have provided the most financial support to businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. Hong Kong had the most fertile ecosystem for logistics businesses and Beijing had the highest human tech capital score.
