UAE - Mubasher: GEMS Education, a leading education company based in Dubai, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the German multinational conglomerate company Siemens.

Under the MoU, the two companies will work jointly to develop new and innovative initiatives to cement collaboration between education and industry, according to a press release.

The new partnership will integrate education and industry through ‘Rahhal’, an initiative of Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) that encourages schools to develop innovative learning opportunities for students.

The recently signed MoU aims at adding value to the knowledge and expertise transfer to GEMS Education students, while boosting the sustainability aspects within the education firm, and promoting digitalisation.

Abdulla Al Karam, chairman and director general at KHDA, said: “This is a first-step towards recognising industry-academia partnerships at the school-level and a reflection of Rahhal’s potential to truly disrupt education. […] This partnership can potentially encourage many more schools to come forward and partner with Rahhal in an effort to extend learning opportunities outside the classroom.”

Furthermore, GEMS students will have access to industry-level courses and qualifications through the GEMS Education-Siemens partnership, in addition to support from industry experts and internships.

CEO of Siemens Middle East Dietmar Siersdorfer said: “A strong partnership between academia and industry is key to developing sustainable knowledge economies, and ensuring students have the tools and skills they need to succeed. We have a responsibility to invest in future generations so they may embrace the opportunities afforded by a digital economy, and this partnership will demonstrate the positive impact of technology and hands-on training in education.”

The new initiatives will be launched at GEMS FirstPoint School, GEMS Education’s newly appointed Centre of Excellence for Digital Industries.
