RIYADH: Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir announced on Monday that the Kingdom has extended financial assistance worth over $8 billion to Yemen over the past few years.
Addressing the opening session of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Coalition countries that support legitimacy in Yemen, Al-Jubeir said that a huge financial aid plan, amounting to over $1 billion, would be announced after the meeting.
A plan for comprehensive humanitarian operations in Yemen to support the work of the UN humanitarian organizations was on top of the agenda of the meeting.
Al-Jubeir said that the meeting comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the coalition countries and their specialists, stressing their efforts to restore legitimacy in Yemen and help the Yemeni people.
Referring to the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the Yemeni people, he said that Saudi Arabia has provided more than $900 million in humanitarian aid to Yemen.
In the meantime, he noted that the Kingdom has been hit by more than 90 Iranian-made ballistic missiles fired by Houthi militias.
“The Houthis also fired over 250 ballistic missiles inside Yemeni territory, including cities and villages,” Al-Jubeir said, adding that the Houthi militias must bear responsibility for the destruction of Yemen.
He said the coalition is working to establish a mechanism with the international community and relief organizations to ensure that relief aid is delivered to those who deserve it.
“We are working with the UN envoy in Yemen to push forward the peace process in Yemen. We are committed to a peaceful solution based on the Gulf initiative, the outcome of Yemeni national dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216,” he added.
