ABU DHABI- Industrial Production Index, IPI, increased by 9.2 percent from 142.3 percent in the first quarter of 2019 to 155.3 percent in the first quarter of 2020, according to Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi, SCAD.

The IPI increased by 11.9 percent in the first quarter of 2020 from 138.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019. The key activity that recorded an increase in the IPI during the first quarter of 2020 compared with the first quarter of 2019, was ‘Manufacture of machinery and equipment’ for which the production quantity increased by 222.4 percent while contributing 115.1 percent to the overall increase in the IPI, SCAD noted.

The production quantity for the group ‘Manufacture of electrical equipment’ increased by 32.9 percent and contributed 11.6 percent to the overall increase.

The key activity that recorded an increase in its quantity, during the first quarter of 2020 compared with the fourth quarter in 2019 was the ‘Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products’ for which quantity produced increased by 45.2 percent, while contributing 132.3 percent to the overall change, SCAD added.

During the first quarter of 2020 compared with the fourth quarter of 2019, production quantities for the group ‘Manufacture of machinery and equipment’ increased by 112.5 percent and contributed 69.6 percent to the overall increase.
