Dubai – To mark the annual World Polio Day, Expo 2020 Dubai will host a march tomorrow (October 24) to highlight the increasing risks of the disease and raise awareness of the need for action globally to create a polio-free world.

The march, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dubai, will start at 1800 GST from Dubai Cares Pavilion in the Opportunity District, moving from Sunset Avenue to Mission Possible – The Opportunity Pavilion, on to Sunrise Avenue, then back to the Dubai Cares Pavilion. Here, participants will take a group photo and enjoy a guitar performance in the space designated for the Rotary Club of Dubai, on the first floor of the building.

Polio is a contagious viral disease that affects children under the age of five and is transmitted through contaminated water. The virus attacks the nervous system and can lead to paralysis. While there is no cure, vaccination can protect children from the deadly disease. Following a global vaccination campaign, to which the UAE contributed, the disease has been eradicated in most countries around the world.
