Muscat - A newly established government-owned entity Blockchain Solutions and Services Co (BSS) announced that it would roll out the necessary technological infrastructure to promote the adoption and implementation of Blockchain technology in Oman.

Delivering keynote address at Blockchain Oman Forum on Wednesday, Dr Khalid MW Tahhan, chief executive officer of BSS said, “We are a government entity which has been given the task to roll out needed Blockchain infrastructure for the country and we are working closely with all other stakeholders. We are working with multiple government entities to establish infrastructure and to provide proper regulations.”

Blockchain, a latest offering in technological space, allows sharing of digital assets at very fast pace in a secured manner.

Tahhan said that BSS is launching this initiative so that local companies can be benefited from the newer technological advances happening around the world. “This effort is all about collaboration. It is a distributed source of truth, trust and consensus. Efficiency, speed and security are key benefits for local companies that can utilise this facility.”

The two-day Blockchain Oman Form kick started at Sheraton Oman hotel on Wednesday under the patronage of H E Abdullah al Salmi, executive president of the Capital Market Authority. The event is organised by Business Processes Outsourcing Services (BPOS) and supported by the Information Technology Authority (ITA).

Speaking at the event Dr Salim al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, said that the government has demonstrated a clear and decisive interest in using Blockchain technology in its digitalisation efforts.

Dr Amar al Rawas, chairman of BPOS, said, “The conference’s main objective is to build on the most important outcomes of the government conference held in November 2017 and the positive steps taken after that.”

Blockchain Oman Forum was attended by more than 100 senior professionals from ICT, banking and finance, energy and manufacturing sectors to discuss their strategies for Blockchain implementation and digital transformation.
