Internet retailer Souq.com in Egypt has been relaunched to Amazon.eg, the e-commerce giant announced on Wednesday.

“Souq.com is now Amazon.eg,” a statement said.

The relaunch was announced following the inauguration of Amazon’s fulfilment centre in the 10th Ramadan City, which was attended by high-ranking government officials Tuesday night.

“Today marks a proud day for Souq.com and Amazon, a day we have been working toward since the two companies came together,” said Amazon Egypt country manager Omar Elsahy.

Amazon.eg will enable consumers to shop for products online and pay in Egyptian pounds (EGP) using credit, debit and prepaid cards.  Shoppers can also opt to pay cash on delivery.

In 2017, Amazon acquired Souq.com in UAE for $580 million and rebranded the e-tailer to Amazon.ae.
