BEIRUT: Prime Minister-designate Mustapha Adib Monday called on political forces to swiftly facilitate the government formation process before Lebanons crises deepen further.

[I] hope everyone will work for the success of the French initiative immediately without delay, Adib said in a series of tweets, adding that the formation of the new government will open up the road to rescue before Lebanon.

Additional delay will exacerbate the crisis and will deepen it and will push people toward more poverty and the country toward more deficits, Adib warned, as the countrys leading politicians feuded over the new Cabinet.

The government formation process hit an impasse after the countrys leading Shiite parties Amal and Hezbollah insisted on retaining the Finance Ministry, as Adib called for the rotation of sovereign ministries among the main sects, a call backed by Sunni and Christian parties.

A 15-day deadline for the formation of the government, set during French President Emmanuel Macrons visit to Beirut was not respected after impediments emerged that blocked the process.

Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diabs government resigned more than a month ago and since then Lebanons descent into chaos has been continuing with people desperately trying to escape the crisis-stricken country.

The pain of the Lebanese people is echoing across the nation through the death voyages at sea, Adib said, referencing the numerous attempts by different people over the past few weeks to flee Lebanon via boat through a dangerous sea route to illegally enter Cyprus.

Lebanon is in the middle of its worst economic and financial crisis that has seen the local currency crash, inflation rates soar with more than half the population plunged into poverty.

I did not spare any efforts to form the mission government with President Michel Aoun, Adib said, calling on political forces to cooperate and facilitate the formation of a new mission government, comprised of specialists that will be able to bring the country out of crises and restore the peoples trust in their nation and its institutions.

I dont think anyone can hold their conscience the responsibility for causing more pain for the people who are suffering from a lot and still are, he said.
