A shooting in Georgia after a traffic stop by law enforcement on Monday left three officers wounded before a suspect was killed and another was taken into custody, authorities said.

Officers stopped a speeding car around 3:30 a.m. EST (0730 GMT) on Interstate 20 in Carroll County in northwestern Georgia, police said on Monday. The driver fled the scene and police pursued, at which point the car's passenger fired shots at the officers.

"During the course of that chase, gunshots were fired by the suspects, firing first on the State Patrol, later on other officers,” Carrollton County Sheriff Terry Langley told reporters at a news conference.

At least two officers were hospitalized for gunshot injuries on Monday, police said.
