New drone footage of the construction site that will host Dubai's Expo 2020 event shows that work has advanced on the Al Wasl Plaza building at the heart of the site, as well as the Route 2020 metro link and the three main pavilions.
An operational update provided by the Expo 2020 organising committee states that more than 14.5 million work hours have been completed on site so far, with 6,100 cubic metres of concrete being laid every week. It also said that 85km of pipes have also been laid as part of the site infrastructure works.

The three theme districts being built by Dubai-based Al Futtaim Carillion under a 2.2 billion UAE dirham ($599 million) contract awarded in March last year are "progressing well", according to Expo 2020. Cladding work is underway and is due to complete by the end of the year.
Steel work for the 150 metre-wide, 67.5m high dome trellis that forms the centre of Al Wasl Plaza is being carried out by Cimolai-Rimond ME.
Arabtec is working on the 352 million dirham contract to deliver the UAE Pavilion, which was awarded in July last year.
The Route 2020 link to the Red Line of Dubai's metro system is being carried out by a consortium that includes Spain's Acciona and Turkey's Gulermack handling the civil works, with French firms Thales providing the technological systems and Alstom handling electromechanical work, as well as providing the trains.
In November, Expo 2020’s vice-president of real estate and delivery, Ahmed Al Khatib, said that Al Wasl Plaza and the thematic districts will be completed by October 2019 to allow for a full year of testing and commissioning ahead of the event’s launch.
