Muscat: The Minister of Transport, Communications and IT visited several transport projects and facilities in North and South Al Batinah Governorates on Tuesday.

A statement issued online by the Ministry said: "His Excellency Eng. Saeed Bin Hamoud Bin Saeed Al-Mawali, accompanied by His Excellency Eng. Salim Bin Mohammed Al-Nuaimi undersecretary of Transport and many officials from the Ministry visited several transport projects and facilities in North and South AlBatinah Governorates."

The Minister started his visit by inspecting the locations of the 7th package of the Al Batinah expressway project.

Later, a field inspection was conducted in some parts of Al-Batinah coastal road. After these visits, the Minister visited A-Suwaiq port and also inspected Suwaiq port berth, which Marafi has extended to reach 289m.

This extended berth has contributed to increasing the port capacity, letting the Port handle more cargo. This new addition will also attract private sector investments in value-added projects to the Port and the future expansion requirements.

Later, the delegation visited Sohar port and reviewed the Port and free zone strategy to hasten growth during the next five years (2021-2025) and the instances in which the Ministry can provide the proper support to this growth strategy.

The minister concluded the day with a visit to Wadi Haibi road which connects North Al-Batinah governorate with Al-Dhahirah Governorate.
