Iraq has awarded contracts to Turkish companies to rebuild Mosul international airport that was badly damaged during the war against Daesh three years ago, an Iraqi official was quoted on Thursday as saying.
The central government in Baghdad has given the green light to the Northern Nineveh Governorate, of which Mosul is the provincial capital, to start reconstruction next month, Nineveh's governor Najm Al-Jabbouri said.
"The rebuilding of Mosul airport will begin in mid-February...the project will be undertaken by Turkish investment companies," he told Aliqtisad News network.
Jabbouri did not identify those firms or mention project costs but said the federal government has given the go-ahead for the "full reconstruction of the airport."
The northern Mosul city suffered the worst damage in Iraq during the hostilities.
