Oman's Public Authority for Water (Diam) has floated an international tender to further study aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) projects for the Sultanate.
Last year, Diam in co-operation with other government entities had conducted an economic and technical feasibility study and identified 14 sites for implementing ASR projects, Diam said in a statement.
The study had identified four sites -Al Khoudh in the Wilayat of Seeb, Adam Wilayat, As Sharqiyah Sands and Wadi Abu Karba in Dank Wilayat - as most suitable, the statement said, adding that projects are expected to have storage capacity of three months of demand with a recovery capacity of around 90,000 cubic metres per day.
The scope of work under this detailed study tender includes carrying out detailed studies of the four most encouraging sites, conducting exploratory drilling, geological and hydrogeological analyses and the implementation of a pilot project at one of the sites.
Documents are available for purchase at 450 Omani riyals till 30 December 2019 and the last date for submission is 27 January 2020, according to a public invite.
The project is intended to achieve water security during emergency situations, optimise water usage from desalinated water and provide cost effective solutions to meet the growing demand for water in the Sultanate, the statement said.
Diam expects water demand to increase by an average of about five percent annually during the next seven years.
