Held under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, the fifth edition of Liwa Ajman Dates Festival witnessed several heritage and cultural events including competitions, recreational activities and much more.

The event was a grand success and saw attendance of young and old alike. Individuals and families extended their support to the Charity Auction, where many baskets were sold and the profits were allocated for Humaid Bin Rashid Charity Foundation.

This edition of the Festival included more than 12 different cultural and entertainment competitions. These competitions included the Best Dates Competition, where several palm farmers participated, in addition to the fruits and citrus competition that encouraged local production, and extended support to farmers to continue agricultural practices, whilst offering residents and visitors an opportunity to learn about these crops. The fruits and citrus competition included five categories: the lemon basket, mango basket, fruit basket and citrus basket. The Festival also witnessed the organization of local and contemporary desserts competition, in addition to the photography competition and many lectures and educational seminars on the importance of agriculture as well as the status of palm trees in the UAE.

HE Saleh Mohammed Al Geziry, ATDD Director General, stressed that Liwa Ajman Dates Festival is a platform to revive the heritage and highlight the customs and traditions of the people of the UAE. At the same time, it is a tourist and commercial destination that promotes aspects of marketing of all kinds of dates. He pointed out that the Festival has succeeded in strengthening its status among the festivals of heritage, environment and agriculture, and become a destination that lovers of heritage tourism look forward to.

The events and activities associated with the Festival included the establishment of a local market with the heritage environment focusing on palm trees and dates, in addition to participation of exhibitors specializing in folklore crafts and handcrafts that reflect the UAE cultural heritage. For the first time, the Festival featured a special cinema corner featuring documentaries from the UAE national archive about palm tress and dates, as well as the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the cultivation of palm trees and their importance and originality in the heritage of the UAE.

To be held until Saturday, 28th July the festival runs from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Visitors can participate in the competitions by registering at the competition desk from 7:00 am to 4 pm.
