S?O PAULO - SchlumbergerSema, a business unit of Schlumberger Limited, today announced it has signed a 20-month contract with Companhia Paulista de Fora e Luz (CPFL) to totally integrate all the company's processes -- from energy distribution network design and planning to the detection of failures. CPFL provides electricity distribution services to more than to eight million consumers in 234 cities in the interior of the state of S?o Paulo, Brazil.
Currently, access to real time consolidated management information is a key driver for energy and utilities companies' success. Reflecting today's challenging business environment, CPFL has decided to make a fundamental change in the infrastructure of its information technology systems, and will integrate its design, planning, interruption and network management, maintenance and field services processes. The objective is to boost operational efficiencies and prepare the company to maintain leadership in the face of future market competition.

The solution that SchlumbergerSema is providing to CPFL is called GISD - Gerenciamento Integrado do Sistema de Distribui?o (or Distribution System Integrated Management). The concept that is being implemented is already being used successfully in the US and Canada to transform utilities into digital enterprises. It is based on the company's Digital Utility* Model Office*, a process that combines services, methodologies and technologies that enable all information to flow in real-time across all company areas in a seamless, integrated and transparent manner. Based on geo-spatial technology, the systems gather all data in one environment, offering greater support for decision-making.
