Congress to support local charities next year
Dubai is set to become the most dynamic Salsa City in the region, judging by the number of participants, audience and talent witnessed at the Dubai Salsa Congress organised by Malecon, Dubai’s first and finest Cuban restaurant at the Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa and Albert Torres Productions. The congress was an overwhelming success and truly personified its organiser Albert Torres’ famous mission statement of ‘creating unity through Salsa’.
The highly anticipated event exceeded expectations as the genre’s top Salsa dance practitioners and avid dance enthusiasts witnessed and presented exciting dance exhibitions and workshops, making it the best Salsa gathering ever in the region. With Albert Torres, head of the Global Salsa Congress concept at the helm, the two-day event at the Fairmont Dubai brought numerous salsa groups and participants together from as far afield as Austria, Italy, Cuba, USA, UK, Bahrain, India, Australia, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, France, Spain, Jordan as well as Salsa Clubs across the UAE for the dance extravaganza.
Albert, supported by his beautiful wife and dance partner Maya, his team of international instructors and the regions top trainers hosted a series of classes and workshops where various styles of salsa were taught and performed.
Malecon’s passionate and entrepreneurial owner, Mark Turner, overwhelmed by the professionalism and commitment from the salseros, will be matching the total donations from the ribbon sales profits for a local children’s charity. “Malecon is committed to bringing Latin cuisine, entertainment and music into the lives of people in Dubai and the congress is an ideal opportunity to reflect Malecon’s commitment to the development of salsa in the city,” said Mark.
“After seeing all the activity and interest in the congress from the local community, I will personally ensure the next salsa congress Malecon brings is even bigger and better. It will also be an event committed exclusively to local charity causes,” added Mark.
Spectators were dazzled by local and international dance performances by professionals before immersing themselves in the passion that is salsa. The event presented a rich diversity of Salsa dance styles from around the world and provided a venue for dancers to showcase their talents and abilities. This year there was a draw for the gold pass holders where Arosha Fernando from London won a trip to next years Salsa Congress in the West Coast of LA.
The party atmosphere continues at Malecon with three more events before the end of this year. There will be a Christmas party on the 20th, Christmas Eve Extravaganza on the 24th and Boxing Day chill-out on the 26th of December with lots of Salsa, complemented by the in-house band Libre, as an added bonus.
