Live Lebanon-UNDP in partnership with BBAC (Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries) has unveiled another new project in the village of Deir Al Ahmar in the Bekaa Valley. The project, which was made possible with the support of Live Lebanon's Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Ghaleb Farha, the Municipality and the Union of Deir El Ahmar Cooperatives, will benefit hundreds of farmers.
The inauguration of the project brought together a number of representatives from the UNDP, BBAC, the Union of Cooperatives of the Deir El Ahmar region, and many other elected officials. Among the attendees were Head of Deir El Ahmar Municipality Mr. Milad Akoury, Head of the Union of Deir El Ahmar Cooperatives Mr. Sobhi Khoury, Head of BBAC's Baalbek branch Mr. Osama Abdulsater, and several other heads of municipalities, mayors, political, religious, and social figures.
Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Ghaleb Farha expressed his enthusiasm stating: "The realization of these high-impact projects turns our hopes into reality. While our faith in the work we can achieve remains steadfast, implementing these goals is far more challenging. This large undertaking will be of vital importance to the community".
The project launched in Deir El Ahmar will support more than 600 farmers within the village itself and in surrounding areas. It will end the water shortage long plaguing the farmers by building appropriate water channels to increase irrigated cultivated land and efficiency. Further, it will help reduce water waste and, hence, conduce to farmers' economic resources and productivity.
The Head of BBAC's Baalbek branch Mr. Osama Abdulsater emphasized: "What interests us is providing care for the Lebanese people, without discrimination or differentiation. With such projects, we hope to provide a better quality of life, a solid and sustainable life for all the people of the Bekaa. We will continue to pursue projects of this nature, whether economic, environmental, youth or health related, in areas most disadvantaged in Lebanon".
