Knowledge Portal Application Helps Simplify Dispensing Data to Improve Safety and Easily Track Performance Trends

KSA, May 13, 2013 - CareFusion, a leading global medical technology company, today announced that King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre will be the first hospital in the Middle East region to install and use the CareFusion Knowledge Portal for the Pyxis® MedStation system.

The CareFusion Knowledge Portal takes data from the hospital's Pyxis technologies and quickly translates it into actionable information. Through the intuitive application, everything that a hospital needs to manage and gain insights from its medication dispensing data is just a few clicks away. The Knowledge Portal enables a hospital to quickly and easily review dispensing data to identify stock-out trends, potential diversion activities and other metrics that can help optimize the medication use process at the hospital.

"Our Pharmaceutical Care Division is the leader in the region when it comes to medication safety and pharmacy automation and informatics," said Dr. Ahmed Al-Jedai, Director of Pharmaceutical Care Division and Consultant Clinical Pharmacist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre. "Our mission is to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to all patients in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner. The CareFusion Knowledge Portal not only helps us achieve our mission but also helps prevent stock-outs by optimizing medication storage locations, monitoring for potential diversion and ensuring compliance with controlled substance tracking. It makes all of these tasks more efficient and the analytics can help us find areas for improvement through a variety of pre-built reports that are very easy to run."

The CareFusion Knowledge Portal is an application that is installed on the hospital's health care information system and can be accessed from any computer at any time. The performance indicators included in the software package allow for trending and continuous monthly monitoring of a variety of activities including transaction-level reporting for auditing of activity, executive summaries with easy access to detailed information, hospital-wide or health system wide benchmarking and pre-built, flexible queries and reports.

The CareFusion Knowledge Portal is also capable of capturing and analyzing data from CareFusion's Alaris® infusion products and AVEA® ventilators. These optional modules can all be linked together in one analytics platform for a hospital's dispensing, infusion and respiratory data.
