Ali Sheikhzadeh, IKCO Powertrain Deputy CEO announced that IKCO intends to produce 125 thousand sets of EF7 national engines this year (started on March 21, 2010) and added, "Samand and Pars are the products to be outfitted with this engine. In the case of an agreement with Peugeot Co., products like Peugeot 405 too, will enjoy EF7. This of course demands some technical changes in the vehicle."
"Based on the schedule, the number of products will chalk up from 200 sets a day in the first quarter to 600 sets a day in the second half of the year," Sheikhzadeh stated.
"Currently 70 percent of the engine is localized and we enjoy needed technology and hardware for full localization," he said and added that the localization would run up to 90 percent in near future.
"The engine shop current capacity is 200 thousand sets per annum that will increase to 300 thousands following the implementation of the second phase of the national engine production line development in less than six months," he mentioned.
IKCO Powertrain Deputy CEO called EF7 engine as an engine that meets the world most recent standards and can be mounted on a large variety of passenger cars in Iran market.
Producing this amount of fuel-efficient engines would be considered as a big leap forward to use EF7 and TU5 engines on IKCO products. Sheikhzadeh finally reiterated that triggering low consumption engine production line with the capacity of one thousand units a day would lead IKCO to the goal of replacing high consumption engines with low consumption ones.
IKCO has achieved the required know-how to design and produce different types of automotive powertrains. The technology enables IKCO to produce engines without the help of foreign companies.
EF7 is the first Iranian automotive engine, designed by IPCO (Iran Khodro Powertrain Co.) in collaboration with German designers in 2005. The engine that is also the first CNG-base one in the world was showcased in the 2008 Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany.
