Cairo - Barclays Bank Egypt announced the appointment of Halla Sakr as Managing Director of the bank. Sakr officially assumed her responsibilities on January 1, 2016, making her the first woman to head Barclays Bank Egypt.

Halla has a proven track record spanning over 30 years in the banking industry. Throughout her career, she has held various senior positions in Retail, Corporate and Risk Managment in both Egypt and the Middle East.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo.

Mizinga Melu, Barclays Africa Regional Management Chief Executive, says: "We are pleased to announce the appointment of Halla to the position of MD for Barclays Bank Egypt. She is a seasoned banker with excellent leadership qualities and a long history of success in delivering results. She is very well known and highly respected in the market and fully understands the key drivers of the Egyptian market. Her appointment is expected to ensure continuity and achievement of the strategic goals that Barclays Bank Egypt has set itself."

Tarek will continue to play an important role in the business, and he will be instrumental in overseeing a smooth leadership transition when Halla formally takes up her role."

Tarek will continue in his role as a General Manager and as an Executive Director of the Board of Barclays Bank Egypt.
