Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The main components, including the Heat Recovery Steam Generators for the first two units of the Ras Al-Khair combined cycle power plant (CCPP), formerly called Ras Az Zawr in Saudi Arabia are now ready for immediate on-schedule delivery. With a total of six units and a total installed capacity of 2400 megawatts (MW), the plant will generate power for an aluminum smelting plant and provide around one billion liters of drinking water a day for the capital city Riyadh with its five million inhabitants. The order volume for Siemens is more than USD1 billion. Purchaser is a consortium comprising Al Arrab Contracting Company, Saudi Arabia and the Chinese Sepco III Electric Power Construction Corporation.

The gas turbines were manufactured in the Siemens gas turbine plant in Berlin, with the manufacturing plant in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr supplying the steam turbines. The generators were produced in the Siemens facility in Charlotte, North Carolina in the U.S. Siemens is supplying a total of twelve gas turbines, five steam turbines, seventeen generators and ten Heat Recovery Steam Generators and the entire electrical and I&C equipment for the Ras Al-Khair CCPP and seawater desalination plant.
