The Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) has revealed the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Municipality Department to further enhance cooperation and coordination between the two parties. The agreement was signed by His Excellency (H.E.) Dr Abdul Quddoos A.R. Al Obaidli, Assistant Commander for Excellence & Pioneering, Chairman of EIPA and H.E. Munzir bin Shukr Al Zaabi, Director General of RAK Municipality. The MoU looks towards reinforcing the partnership between the two parties to help enhance their technical and administrative capabilities.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties have affirmed their commitment to organize and coordinate the procedures, legal, administrative and financial procedures in a manner that does not contradict with their respective obligations and competencies and in line with their strategic plans. RAK Municipality Department will register any intellectual property being applied to by its employees through consultation and guidance from EIPA. The two sides will further develop and strengthen bilateral cooperation, recognizing the importance of intellectual property in the national development of the country as a tool for economic growth.

The MoU also aims towards enhancing coordination between the two sides across technical and practical fields covered in the delivery of services, including the application of best practices in the field of intellectual property in government institutions; the development of intellectual property awareness and its legislation; the exchange of intellectual property expertise and knowledge through seminars and lectures aimed at promoting awareness of intellectual property rights for employees of the Municipality and Planning Department, as well as benefiting from the experiences of other governmental institutions in the field of intellectual property.

Al Obaidli expressed EIPA’s keenness towards promoting and developing a strategic partnership with RAK Municipality, which falls in line with the association’s aim to unify its efforts with the Municipality and ensure the provision of excellent services to its customers—reflecting the high-quality of services being offered by both EIPA and RAK Municipality Department. Al Obaidli pointed out that EIPA is committed in keeping abreast with the latest developments in the field of intellectual property, which fall in line with the directives of the UAE's leadership to position intellectual property as one of the pillars of an advanced economy and a key factor in the development of the culture of any country, including consumer protection.

“The MoU that we have signed with RAK Municipality Department represents joint cooperation and coordination in the field of intellectual property and its protection. The agreement is a positive step to support our activities in this field and to strengthen our relations with one of the parties interested in developing their capabilities in the field of intellectual property. We are keen on increasing awareness about intellectual property for RAK Municipality Department and remain confident that they will be an active partner in the development of the national economy. Through the MoU, we seek to improve the performance of operations, streamlining procedures and joint coordination to enhance the capabilities of their staff, as well as conducting joint activities in areas related to the protection of intellectual property rights and awareness and training in this field,” concluded Al Obaidli.
