- Dubai ideal place to hold BMW Boxer Cup Race Series according to Mamola -

Tens of motorcycle riders from the Dubai-based BMW Motorcycle Caravan, a BMW motorcycle riders group, were invited by AGMC, the exclusive BMW Group cars and motorcycle importer for Dubai and Northern Emirates, to ride into the desert with Randy Mamola, former Moto GP 500cc race champion and BMW Boxer Cup Race Ambassador, last week.

Starting at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the riders accompanied Mamola and his wife Barbara on a ride that headed past the red dunes of Hatta before heading towards the spectacular grounds of Sharjah University where they continued along Sheikh Zayed Road and finally finished at the F1 Net Café on Jumeirah Beach Road.

At their final stop, Mamola spent some time with more than 50 motorcycle enthusiasts, where he talked about his personal experience with the World Championship Moto GP and his enthusiasm for the highly competitive and accessible BMW Boxer Cup Race Series. He discussed the prospects of running a Boxer Cup class in the Middle East, when tracks in Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar are completed. Mamola also urged local businesses to support UAE-based motorcycle riders and develop race teams to enter the Boxer Cup Race Circuit in the 2004 season.

Mamola expressed his optimism for the success of motor racing in the region, specifically in Dubai, saying:  “The perfect weather conditions in Dubai, the passion held for motoring by people living here, and the progressive ‘can-do’ attitude of UAE nationals and residents makes this, the ideal place for holding the BMW Cup.

“In addition, an advanced public transport system and wide range of world-class accommodation, coupled with the UAE’s successful track record in holding major international events, such as the Dubai World Cup, Dubai Tennis Championships and the Rugby Sevens, are proof that Dubai is more than prepared to host the regions first Boxer Cup.”

Mamola also explained that racetracks around the world offer great training venues for both car and motorcycle enthusiasts and provide outlets for people to learn about safety issues in motoring such as the implications of speeding, and skills development for breaking and cornering to avoid accidents. Mamola congratulated AGMC and BMW Motorrad on their efforts to train motorcycle riders in Dubai, regardless of the make of the motorcycles they ride, as they are helping such riders prepare for the challenges of the sport.

Mamola urged nationals and residents of the U.A.E. to experience motorcycle racing during their visits to Europe, as it would be the ideal way to feel the excitement and thrills the sport has to offer.  “The passion of 130,000 spectators who watch Moto GP’s and the BMW Boxer Cup a couple of times a month in Europe, is an experience that must be seen to be believed,” he said.

Mamola’s visit to Dubai comes as part of the inauguration of the first dedicated BMW Motorrad Showroom in the Middle East, which was launched by AGMC.
