Make a statement with personalised jewellery and accessories
Dubai: A unique concept has just been introduced to Dubai. With the opening of Bead Palace and Accessories, a first-of-its-kind DIY (do-it-yourself) jewellery design and teaching centre, UAE residents will have the opportunity to learn how to design and create their own beaded personalised jewellery and accessories. It will offer the latest techniques in bead design and glass bead sculpturing.
Speaking of the DIY jewellery concept, Linda Mann, owner of Bead Palace said, “We felt that this cosmopolitan region was ready to accept an old craft such as beading and give it the modern day touch and hence Bead Palace was born. Our aim is to give customers an opportunity to create their own exclusive jewellery from a large selection of beads of various materials from around the world. Bead Palace is the largest teaching and bead resource centre in Dubai.”
A trained team at Bead Palace will assist customers to realise their creative ambitions to create original designs. And in case one requires help with their designs, in-house jewellery designers will be on hand to help them achieve that perfect design. In addition to this, daily classes will be held in jewellery making, home décor accents and glass bead making.
With over 10,000 beads from more than 17 countries, varying from Murano glass to silver and gold leaf finish to semi precious gemstones of varying shapes and hues, it is guaranteed that customers will be spoilt for choice. At Bead Palace most of the beads are hand made.
Speaking on the shift from traditional jewellery to newer concepts such as beading, Linda Mann said, “Women used to value only fine jewellery, for both its intrinsic beauty and for the prestige of wearing an admired piece. But times are changing and now ladies are turning their attention to hand-made ornaments. The attraction of this jewellery is to rely primarily in the uniqueness of uniqueness of design and the fact that the jewellery consists of DIY items, which imbues the wearer with a sense of personal identification.”
As the concept of beading transcends all ages, Bead Palace will become a destination for families where each member can create a personal design that is unique. DIY ornaments can include rings, bracelets, necklaces, pedants, earrings, anklets, armbands or even innovative and ‘out of the box’ ideas such as mobile phone straps, bags and prayer beads. On average it would take a few minutes to assemble the accessory once the beads have been selected. A special children’s section will ensure that young ones are kept busy creating their own masterpieces.
Research has shown that bead craft assists those with disabilities as it improves their dexterity. Bead Palace has been designed keeping in mind the needs and requirements of those with special needs.
Bead Palace also has a well-stocked library which is available to its customers. There are books on a wide range of bead and bead design topics. The books and magazines often provide detailed instructions. The art of creating your own glass beads is also presented in some of the library’s resources. International bead artists will be offering courses teaching specialised bead techniques and glass bead creating and sculpting.
Bead Palace is at Villa No. 5 – 504b, Jumeira 3, Jumeira Beach Road, Dubai and will be open on Saturday to Thursday from 10am – 7pm and from 2pm – 8 pm on Friday.
