Abu Dhabi, UAE: Further expanding its engagement beyond the core art world, Art Basel is delighted to announce Art Basel Inside, a multi-faceted cultural experience offering thought leaders from diverse fields and industries the opportunity to share visions and engage with the issues facing the world today. Creating a context for these conversations, Marc-Olivier Wahler, Director of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, Geneva, will curate a three-day immersive arts program. Art Basel Inside, programmed by Art Basel and curated by Marc-Olivier Wahler, will take place in Abu Dhabi from February 14 to February 16, 2020 and is hosted in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

Thematic journeys, site-specific installations and commissioned performances will be complemented by dynamic dialogues and workshops with visionary guest speakers from the worlds of technology and science, addressing topics such as intelligence, environments, sustainability, and the role of the arts. Smaller break-out sessions will allow for more in-depth conversations and exchanges, with a focus on challenging conventional notions and discussing alternative pathways for the future.

Patrick Foret, Director of Business Initiatives and Partnerships, says: 'Art Basel Inside is an innovative experience in which we offer a carefully composed group of leading entrepreneurs and change makers the opportunity to be immersed in a new environment driven by the transformative power of art – a unique chance to come together around a common goal.'

Marc-Olivier Wahler explains: 'Moving away from more traditional settings, I am very much looking forward to creating an immersive environment, a unique ecosystem in which critical issues such as sustainability and artificial intelligence are not approached as isolated topics, but instead as contingencies within a larger network.'

Marc Spiegler, Art Basel's Global Director, says: 'In today's world it is vital that those in the art world not only speak to each other about the art world, but rather discuss with a wider range of thinkers a broader range of topics.'

Art Basel Inside will take place in Abu Dhabi, which over the past ten years has developed into a global destination for culture, with projects such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Cultural Foundation, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Warehouse421, and the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery; and the future Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, set to open in the coming years.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, says: 'We are proud to be entering into partnership with Art Basel Inside in Abu Dhabi. This is a collaboration brought about by a shared passion for the arts, and a belief in their importance in driving understanding, progress and innovation. Abu Dhabi invests meaningfully in culture with a long-term strategy in place; an array of museums, cultural centres, and arts and heritage events testify to this and the emirate is home to many established and emerging artists. We look forward to welcoming the participants of Art Basel Inside to our emirate and to enabling this powerful collective to network in a forum that believes in the importance of culture in inspiring innovative thinking.'
