New production lines to meet increased demand for GRP pipes

Dammam, 30 November 2003 - Amitech, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company, one of the world's biggest pipe manufacturers, has stepped up production at two manufacturing facilities in Europe in order to meet the increased demand for Flowtite GRP pipes in the Western European market.

With the new CW 3000 Flowtite GRP pipe manufacturing line, which is already in operation, Amitech Spain can produce pipes with diameters up to 3000 mm in a wide range of pressure types. In total, manufacturing facilities have been increased to 6,700 square metres, including a complete hydro testing unit that has been built to carry out tests on the new diameters in pipe lengths up to 13 metres, and a new production hall for laminated and moulded pipe fittings.

At the same time, Amitech Germany has also set up a second production line to double capacity at its manufacturing facility in Mochau near Dresden where, since 1993, Flowtite GRP pipes have been manufactured using a continuous filament winding process.

Previously, production at the German plant ranged between 250 and 300 kilometres of pipes a year in diameters ranging from DN 100 up to DN 2400. The second production line has been installed due to continuous and growing demand, and not only increases Amitech Germany's manufacturing capability up to 600 kilometres of pipes a year, but also increases flexibility in meeting orders with shorter delivery times.
