Tunisia - The preliminary results of the second round of the parliamentary elections will be announced no later than February 1, 2023, said Farouk Bouasker, president of the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE).

Speaking at a press conference held at the Convention Centre Saturday, Bouasker added that the final results of the legislative elections will be made public on March 4, 2023, at the latest.

The new parliament will be invited to hold its inaugural session just after the announcement of the final results of this election, he said.

Farouk Bouasker gave a presentation on ISIE's preparations as well as the measures taken to hold the run-off vote of the election, whose first round took place last December 17.

He recalled, in the same context, that 23 candidates, including 3 women, won parliamentary seats in the first round.

These candidates represent 20 electoral constituencies inside the country and 3 constituencies abroad, he said.

The president of the ISIE said 262 candidates (228 men and 34 women) spread over 131 constituencies will compete in the second round of elections on Sunday, January 29.

The number of voters concerned by the vote (registered in the 131 electoral districts where the second round will take place) is about 7.8 million (7 million 853 thousand 447 voters), of whom 2.02 million (2 million 25 thousand 498 voters) are automatically registered.

The number of voters who came voluntarily to register amounts to 5.8 million (5 million 827 thousand 949 voters), he noted.

In addition, Bouasker stressed that the National Army and the home security forces, on January 20, distributed the electoral materials to the polling centres and offices.

The ISIE mobilised 632 agents to oversee the campaign which took place between January 16 and 27, he added.

In this context, he said that 524 of them are field agents and 108 administrative agents.

Some 4222 centres and 10,012 polling stations will open on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. he added, indicating that the total number of agents mobilised will be 40,594.
